Destinations
I have been fortunate enough to travel all around the world, visiting 31 countries, 4 of the 7 continents and indulging my love of train travel frequently over the years. Where possible, I seek out destinations that are slightly more off the beaten track, like Ghana, Uzbekistan and Mongolia. I also love travel itself – the feeling of movement, as time slips by with nothing to do but enjoy the journey. That, to me, is bliss.
As I’ve grown older and the impact I have on the environment has become more important to me, my travel style has changed and so the destinations will adjust too. I aim to take more trains and ferries than planes. Fewer long-haul flights. Slower travel. Overland and oversea travel. In future, I hope to visit destinations that are a little closer to home, balancing those trips with just one or two trips further afield each year.
There’s no doubt that the pandemic has also played a part in this changed mindset. The destinations I pick in future will be carefully considered for both the health of the locals I will be around, and the relative ease and speed with which I can travel home again, should I need to!
In the meantime, while I plan future trips and dream of travel, why not browse the posts I’ve written about destinations I’ve already visited? Just click on any of the images below to read more about my time in that particular country!
